6 months home!

Today! And last week, we GOT IT! Our consent to adoption from our agency! That means....... we go to court soon to finalize Wiggly's adoption. THAT means we get to be his official parents FOREVER! THAT means Wiggly gets to be officially OUR SON, FOREVER! THAT means he gets to be a US citizen. And THAT means we have to deal with USCIS one more time for one more paper work for Wiggly. But that's another story.

I thought of jotting down some of our firsts and joys with Mr Wiggly before we forgot all of them so here goes:

he holds out his hands to be held when we say let's pray (before meals)

he squints his eyes for a second or two and peeps out of them when we say let's pray (one of these days I'm gonna get that on camera)

he has now perfected the act of saying please - he claps his hands and smiles really big... how can anyone refuse that?

before when things got quiet, I would find him into cabinets and no-no stuff. Now, when things go quiet, I find him in his book corner, paging through a book or so

just recently, he pulled me close to him and gave me such a huge hug! With a smile on his face of course!

when we ask for "lovins," he opens his mouth and gives us a french kiss! Ha! He has been doing this for a few months now. It used to be we would say bohpoh (Korean for kiss) and he'd french kiss us. But now he understands lovins and kiss in English

his receptive language just has gotten so much better. One day, I was sort of talking to myself wondering where his bib was. He turned around and walked away and came back to me bringing his bib over! And here I was getting ready to put on my stern, tough voice because he didn't come to me when I said "come here!"

the other day, I told him to go brush his teeth and he RAN over to the bathroom where we brush his teeth! Seriously! That about floored myself and UD!

it is a little bit of work getting his teeth brushed but he tolerates it only to be able to play with his
Debrox bottle (earwax softener)

seriously this guy loves the softener! He takes it with a smile - more like a laugh. He is hilarious!

We are still waiting on vocabulary explosion, but we are definitely hearing more English words from him like: clap, peekaboo, choo-choo, tchu for “shoes,” boo for “ball,” and,
what sounds like Amen,

he is very much into sounds – animal sounds and now trying to sound out “vroom,” and “tick tock”

he now points to his nose, ears, cheeks and feet when asked, and raises his hands when you ask him where his hands are

he loves going to story time at the library. He stays mostly quiet and just observes at story time but then comes home and does the actions to the songs we've learned. The last two times we went to the library, he could not wait to get inside the story room. He runs to the door, looks back at me, and beckons with his hand and says “hee-hee” for “here”

he “sings” to himself after I start the song off. Trying to guess what song he wants sung is a little tricky but I manage

We've had our “first snow” with him and boy was it a revelation! He ran back and forth between our patio door and his bedroom to look through the window, clapping and jabbering away. So I had to take him outside to enjoy it. I opened the garage door, he paused for a second or two just looking, then ran out and held out his hands trying to catch the snowflakes. It was just so stinking cute! I don't have that on film unfortunately. Had to make sure he didn't run out to the road without me. Priorities have definitely changed in this neck of the woods.

he loves jumping on the trampoline – mostly on cousin J.'s shoulders or held by him.

We've had our first thanksgiving with Wiggly. He did really well and I was just blessed surrounded with family. He also played on real drums for the first time ever, this Thanksgiving. That was a sight to see thanks to UJ!

he LOVES Elmo. Part of that may be that, Elmo is what I normally borrow for him because it has a lot of singing. He's not entertained with “movies” without singing.

And for the priceless moment: Wiggly came home with an Elmo balloon the other night – no occasion really.
Just a Daddy and son moment.

We are just so thankful for this bundle of Wiggliness!

Where are Wiggly's socks?

Today I got Wiggly out of his crib and noticed that he'd taken his socks off but I couldn't find them anywhere.
So I asked, "Buddy, where man your socks?" Wiggly promptly unzipped his pillow, T and lo and behold, there his socks were! Inside T! This kid is just hilarious! And understanding so much more English!

Love this kid so much!

National Adoption Month

Where did time go?

5/12/11 Around 12noon celebrating our TC and my last day as full time worker

Last day at work - I was there in body only. On the phone with UD making travel plans.
Thank you Sam-I-am for the TC pictures!
We made it! 6am 5/18/2011 Incheon, Korea.
When we landed in Incheon, GM thanked us for inviting her to come. Frankly we would have been LOST without her. So thank YOU GM!
We promptly found our agency office... while waiting to check in to the guest house. Around 7:30am 5/18/11 Seoul, Korea

6 months ago, we met our son for the first time and signed one important paper that made us "guardians" to Mr Wiggly.

Around 5:30pm 5/19/11 Seoul, Korea

6 months ago our son had to say goodbye to everything and everyone familiar most especially his Umma. Such a happy day, yet bittersweet life changing event for every one involved.
Gotcha day/Family day 5/20/11 Seoul, Korea
First morning together 5/21/11 Seoul, Korea
Wiggly literally stayed attached to Daddy's hip the 1st and the 2nd day we got him.

By the grace of God, Mr Wiggly's transition has been blessedly smooth. For that we are so grateful. He continues to do very well with us. He has brought so much joy to us........All praises to the One we call our God!

Catch up part 2....

I need to get a patent for this....
Mr Wiggly's Pororo beaters.

At work with Daddy.

Cousin K asked if we could just leave Mr Wiggly with them while we went to N's and K's wedding. Just really warmed my heart.

As you can see, I said no to cousin K's request :) Mr Wiggly was a busybody at the wedding but no squealing or shrieking. Our friend L. helped contain him at the reception while I took a few pics here and there. Thanks L!

After the wedding we stayed with Auntie L. and Uncle L. and their puppy dog. If we would have stayed another day longer, I think Mr Wiggly and their puppy would have been buddies. Alas we had to leave. So they stayed within staring distance for the most part.
He pulls on his eyelashes or hits his eye/eyes to keep himself awake. He lost the battle on this one!

We took him to a Korean thanksgiving day called "Chuseok." Thanks SB for taking us along.

Cool Mr Wiggly.

My baby's growing up!

He loves playing with the 4count lego blocks.

Woof, woof! He absolutely loves animal books.

Stretching to a tune we learned from story time at the library.

A nice warm applause for himself!

"ho" for hello. He used to say "ba" (Korean.) He is slowly switching gears.

Having fun with Daddy and "Mo" (for Elmo) sticker.

He laughs when I try to imitate this look.

My future camera assistant. Trying to do self photo ops with him is pretty challenging to say the least. He either makes a beeline for the tripod, or the remote or the camera or the wires. Trying to get him to smile at self photo ops is just impossible.

He loves being read to.
Mr Wiggly turned 20months on our match day anniversary!

Match day!

I started this post on the actual match day anniversary and here it is a few days later....

A year ago today, we were matched with our little guy! I recall how smooth the phone interview went the day prior. Then the morning of match day, our dossier was taken to committee to see if we were a match to "the little guy." About lunch time on 10/28/10 hubby received the call that made us adoptive parents of "the little guy!" Oh what a day! Yet another whole bunch more of paperwork followed of course. But we were on a roll. The acceptance paperwork was nothing compared to the prior forms we had to fill out. Nothing mattered! We had a son!

A couple weeks ago, I had started a post about our referral anniversary. But it's rather long and has a whole lot of my musings so I decided to spare everybody the long read and just share pics instead. Mostly I decided it was more for Mr Wiggly to read when the time comes. I will share this: a day or so before we got our notice about "the little guy," I had gone for a walk talking to the Lord; thanking the Lord for the loss of the "empty arms" feeling I had felt (for what seemed like forever) after our miscarriage. At the same time, I told the Lord, I would be perfectly ok with a 4-5yr old child. So when we got this email about "a little guy," I just knew this was my "4-5yr old child!" But God had other plans for us yet again :) Isn't it amazing how God works?

 On with the pictures:
This month marks one year since we first saw this little guy's photo

Here he is now! "Bugoy!" The closest translation to English: "ORNERY"

Mr Wiggly continues to do very well with us. He is very much a happy kid. He sleeps through the night most nights. Takes his naps very well too. Yes he can be a grumpy gus at times - mostly on the days he doesn't get his usual nap times. His appetite is the same: is it time to eat yet; "I want some more of that!" We have discovered he does NOT like mashed potatoes but he is a  french fry nut. He has grown 4inches since we brought him home! Must be that beef that PJ grows! His language hasn't grown much since I last updated but he continues to jabber away. Just the other day, he started saying "wook" for look; and "mow-mow" for Elmo. We know for sure he is understanding us just fine. We tell him to put his shoes away and he takes them with one hand and puts them on the rug I have designated for his shoes right next to the banister. We tell him to go get his pillow; he does. We tell him to come here and he looks at us and gives us this look of "now what? Do I really have to?" Let's just say the "come here" thing is a work in progress. Just as the parents are a work in progress.

On the anniversary of our match day, we get to have our last post placement visit with our social worker! Thank you Lord! That means, prayerfully our Mr Wiggly will be officially ours by the end of this year! Oh yeah!

Here are some catch up pictures. Enjoy!

Eating Nun tacos at the county fair. Yummy to the tummy!

It was so worth it watching him ride the kiddie rides at Dollywood.

He could not wait to get in the ducky rides as soon as he saw the steering wheels.

Would you stop with the picture taking already Mama?

Our future ping pong Emperor.

A pose with one of the geysers at Yellowstone. Thanks for the stroller AR!

We are on top of the world! This was at Yellowstone.

The weekend I took this picture was what I call "break through weekend" with the cousins. He now allows 1, sometimes 2 of the little cousins to pick him up without shrieking. He still has some more adjustment left to do when it comes to the little cousins but he's coming along... slowly. I'm just glad he doesn't bite or scratch at them. I have to give it to the cousins - they are pretty patient with him despite the shrieking and squealing. He seems to have adjusted just fine with the bigger cousins.

Hit it buddy, hit it!

He doesn't go too far without his favorite pillow.

Our diaper genie Emperor!

Bubbles, bubbles at Dr S.' fish fry.

This guy loves his watermelon! He loves snitching from PJ too!

Having fun with cousin S. at a friend's wedding reception. He is having the toughest time getting adjusted to cousin S. But we're working on it. I have her help with his cares indirectly when she's around so they could "hang out together." The first day he went to her to be carried and hugged by her just melted my heart. Unfortunately there's been only one other time. Work in progress.... work in progress.

Our budding pianist.

This kid loves his corn too. We enjoyed yummy corn from GM this summer. Thank you GM!

What? No more corn???

Hamming it up at 18months.
He loves the swing. His laugh is just contagious!

First horse ride! He lasted only a few seconds.

Blowing a kiss.
