Seollal

February 10th 2013 is Korean New Year aka Seollal. So happy Seollal! We celebrated by going to church, lounging around in the afternoon, a few pictures of Wiggly in his hanbok, then dinner with PJ and GM – courtesy of UD. So we're learning Korean culture and traditions slowly at a time. And I mean S-L-O-W-L-Y. So Seollal is actually the beginning of the lunar calendar. Apparently this is a big celebration. Traditionally, families dress up in hanboks, children wish their elders with a deep traditional bow wishing them many blessing for the new year.
The children apparently get money - big bucks.

In our case, we recycled the money Mrs. J hid in Wiggly's money pouch. HA!
There are foods that Koreans eat specifically for Seollal but we went with home made Mandu (dumplings) and Japchae and UD added his own touch of steamed lobsters on the side! All so yummy to the tummy!

There are so many other details... this is a three day event where people take time to go and visit and spend time with families. There are traditional games involved like flying rectangular kites, jumping on seesaws and a few others I haven't learned.

This was our first time to celebrate Seollal and wasn't too bad for a first time. Hope Bebe Boder had a good first Seollal with his foster family! We sure were thinking of you, Bebe Boder!
